Located in southern Colorado, near the town of Granada, Amache was one of ten internment camps established during World War II by the federal government's War Relocation Authority. From 1942 to 1945, this site served as a holding facility for more than 10,000 individuals, mostly American citizens of Japanese descent who were forcibly removed from their homes and communities due to wartime hysteria and discriminatory policies.
